Cagayan De Oro’s 1st ever Tumblr Summer Meet-Up 2010
In the heart of the city, 1:00 o’clock in the hot afternoon of the 1st of May 2010, Tumblristas from the main city, from nearby cities, tumblristas that are just here in CdeO for the summer, gathered in Bo’s Coffee Club in Limketkai Rosario Arcade. Tumblristas ranging from the young web-powerful to the highly respected professionals, from the innocent ones to the young at heart, from the meek highschool students to the reputable college students, and even the ones that have jobs already. All these tumblristas are proud Kagay-anons. They are Kagay-anons, warm and hospitable by nature. Kagay-anons are very easy to get along with so everyone that attended this event was very comfortable with each other’s company, although most of them have just met for the first time. This event also proved that even Kagay-anons do also honor the so-called ‘Filipino Time’. But waiting for the others to arrive was not in vain, since everyone loved jokes and games, everybody was well-entertained the whole time. As time passed by, these Kagay-anon Tumblristas could not help but share things related to Tumblr, of course. They talked about the hottest topics in Tumblr nowadays. Sharing how they started to use Tumblr was also a very interesting topic in the group’s conversation. Some of them said it was their friends or classmates that influenced them to start using Tumblr, some of them were influenced by their little sisters too, and some of them were just going with the flow since Tumblr is becoming very famous now. The history and mystery behind the usernames was also something to talk about, exciting as it seems every Username had its own story. Some of them said their Usernames were inspired by their favourite names, words, numbers, phrases, and even their own nicknames. Unexpectedly, and fortunately, everyone were very open with each other, everyone did actually blend in to become very good friends. Picture Taking. “Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still.” – Dorothea Lange. Of course, everybody would want to be taken pictures of when they’re having the time of their lives. Group pictures, solo pictures, candid pictures, since photographs help us bring back the good memories. The fun continued when the group started strolling in Limketkai Mall. Eating at KFC as a group meant more quality time with each other. Times flies when you’re having fun. Unfortunately, as the night got deeper, everyone needed to go home. The 1st of May 2010, a day a group of 16 Tumblristas from Cagayan De Oro City would never forget, a day where new friendships were established, a day where new bonds were tied between used-to-be strangers. From that day on, these Kagay-anon Tumblristas stand not as strangers that follow each other on Tumblr, but as one Family. More power to the Tumblristas of CdeO. More power to the Kagay-anons. More Power to the Filipinos.

P.s. We all are looking forward to the next Tumblr Meet-up this year, 2010. We hope that more Kagay-anon Tumblristas would attend the said event. See you all there.

While most people chose the beach to plunge with this summer, sixteen amazing people gathered up at Bo’s Coffee Club, Rosario Arcade Limketkai Center on the first day of May to get to know each other well and to get associated with each other’s personality. These amazing people I am talking about were from Cagayan de Oro City and places neighboring it. Despite the diverse differences in attitude, nobody got alienated and out of place.

I actually had a great time with these people. I arrived at Bo’s at around twenty minutes after one and there were already five persons inside. They were Roie, Jenny, Sheila and siblings Dan and Janell. Oh well, I didn’t really feel nervous and shy the moment I came in. In fact, I immediately greeted everybody. They were all very accommodating and approachable. Roie immediately passed me the attendance and the name tag. After how many minutes, little by little, tumblr people started appearing. The person who arrived next to me was Plang. She was very bubbly and friendly. And by the way, she’s from Davao City who happen by a chance, went in CdeO to have a summer vacation. Despite the fact that she’s from Davao, she was welcomed warmly by us. Then three other people came in. They were Carlo, Red and Regina. These three were so close at first and only Carlo was the one talking to us. Minutes later, Regina and Red joined the conversation and there the fun-filled conversation started.

We had a question and answer portion at first, the question was who influenced you to use tumblr? Sorry for I don’t really remember all of the answers but one thing that stuck in my head - Janell! Hahaha. He was a sort of an influence-r, in a good way though. She was actually the one who influenced Jenny to use tumblr and if I’m not mistaken, her brother too. Regina and Plang both had a same answer to the question; they were influenced by the tumblr posted via facebook thing. How and why did you have a username like that? Most answers were very predictable; they derived their usernames from their names. Some answered they just had it by random. I remembered how Jenny had her username, iheart37, because she said that 37 is her favorite number but is it really just your favorite number? Hahaha.

Roie cracked a sort of like a brain twister slash game to us. It’s about the goat! I don’t really need to tell you the question but one thing’s for sure, our brain got twisted and we were all left incapable of answering the question. Then after agreeing that we really can’t answer the question, Roie finally showed the correct answer was. The answer was actually very tricky and very clever. It was funny though because the answer was actually very simple! Shame on us! Lol. So anyway, at the middle of the game, Jomie arrived and he happened to be from Misamis Occidental were he shared that he traveled three hours just to attend the meet up. Thank God he got a generous relative that offered him a place to stay at night. So anyhow, he was also puzzled with the game. Hahaha.

Game time was over and it was time for Plang to crack her jokes! Hahaha. There was a lot of knock-knock, who’s there? Jokes but I guess one thing that was very memorable was the Johnny Johnny Whoops where everybody happened to get very puzzled and disturbed at the same time. Hahaha. After how many attempts, everybody seemed to be constantly failing. Hahaha. The answer was very easy and some just laughed at the answer. Hahaha. And oh, I remembered Poto-copy, Poto-graph, Poto-gether and Poto-genic.

After Plang’s priceless moments, it was picture time! We had our picture in front of Bo’s and elsewhere near Bo’s. :) LOL. After the picture-taking session, we all decided to go to Limketkai Mall. Just when we were on our way in, two CdeO tumblristas arrived. Harold and Liza both arrived late because they both had a very last-minute decision to go to the meet up. After meeting Harold and Liza, Sheila bade her goodbye to us. We all decided to go to the arcade but hadn’t really played when we arrived there. Instead we all had our individual pictures taken there. XD After a couple of minutes, me, Christine and Plang bade our goodbye to everybody and the rest of the happening I don’t know. But I heard there were five who remained and toured Jomie in the Night Café! :)

Overall, I really had fun with you guys. You were all very cool and very unique on your own special ways. I hope to see you all again guys in the next meet up, hopefully this December. Love lots.

Cagayan de Oro's first ever Tumblr Meetup was a success.

It was great meeting such amazing people and making new friends! I was even more delighted to know that CdeO is blessed with such welcoming, friendly and fun people which made the meetup more memorable.

The idea of a meetup is indeed really fun. It made me realize how awesome it is to be on Tumblr especially if you get to see the people behind every wonderful posts, be it random pictures, quotes, gifs or even rants.

I hope this will be the first of the many meetups to come. :) Tumblr has really captured the essence of social networking with Tumblr Meetups. With all the fun, laughters and memorable moments, I sure would never look at any social networking/blogging site the same way I did with Tumblr.

Thank you CdeO Tumblr friends. You just made my day. til next time!

a funny, coffee lovin' ultimate reblogger.
a full-time dreamer civil engineer student.
a friendly and funny photographer who never quites.
a cute and fun-loving nineteen year old girl.
a cool starwars lover guy.
an eighteen year old photographer who's living and loving beyond the border line of his knack.
a friendly, earth lover who will travel the world someday.

these different people together make the perfect circle of friends, simply unique and fun in their own ways.

we wish we could have answered kuya roie's brain twister?. HAHAHA! one thing that made me laugh was when Plang told us a joke. she was like "i.shake ang mindanao" then Plang's brothers and cousins were like shouting and waving their hands up in the air, HAHAHAHA. everyone was staring at us in confusion.

I'm looking forward to the next Tumblr meet up. I hope to see you guys again.

The Tumblr Meet Up: On my POV (this is my point of view and I am going to write what I want the way I see it. I will be selfish; I don’t want to talk about what he/she thinks about so and so. I am going to talk as if this would be the last time I would see these awesome people, but before you continue reading, I wanna clear it out and make it a point that I am not a good writer/essayer/narrator. I would like you to expect the least out of this, please cooperate.)

Scheduled on May 1, 2010 @ 1o’clock in the afternoon, this meet up was a first for me. Not only was I excited but of course half the part I was also anxious. For the excited part of me, I imagined myself with new faces I didn’t even know existed. We live in the same city (except for Plang, Jomie), we have undergone the same hustle and bustle of the streets and most of us go to the same school. How come I did not see you before? My life would have been easier, literally and figuratively. And for the anxious part, I just can’t help but imagine that this would end to be a failure Yes, I am a pessimist. I’d rather say that the cup is half-empty rather than saying that it is half-full. One of the great things to having a pessimistic mind is that you are able to measure or gauge what you can and cannot expect out of a certain activity. Of course people will say “Yes, I will come. “ “I will attend this meet up.” But still that won’t assure you of anything; those are just words of temporary assurance. You get what I mean; we can’t be so sure of anything. Even our friends have their alibis, what more strangers. Another thing is that you can really appreciate good things more than the usual. When you have already expected that it will be a success you must have assumed the feeling already, right? Unlike when you expected the negative and ended up positive, the feeling is just great!

So we gathered at Bo’s Coffee Club, I do not know who arrived first but I assume the organizers did. I arrived a few minutes after 2o’clock and when I got there I was the 9th person on the attendance sheet, I was happy because I thought only the organizers would be present. HAHA that is how pessimistic I am. Anyway, I introduced myself to them and gave them handshakes, I never really am the type of person to do the shakes but yeah I felt the need of doing it. That was really weird and awkward for me though.

Roie – The mastermind. The virtuoso. I knew this dude just because of the meetup, I have never heard of the popular site that he was running. (PinoyFollower) We exchanged messages on tumblr asks, updating each other about the meet up shiznits – helping him spread the news was the only help I could offer. He is a Computer Science student in XU. If I were to choose who I wanna be after a lifetime, I would really choose to be this guy. The kind of famous-and-responsible plus skilled-and-intellectually-arousing qualitites make this guy, this guy. Did I mention intellectually-arousing? Of course! You can always ask him or the other people about this, he actually managed to outsmart all of us with his “Do not let the goat out.” Challenge. Need I say more?

Dan – The poster maker. Influenced by his younger sister. I have been familiar to his name because of the meet up teaser/poster that screamed “(c) Dan Sihay” . What I was wondering about was that it did not have a link to his tumblr, unlike the part which said “For more info tumblr ask me” “Me” was linked to Roie’s tumblr ask. You know what I did? I typed on the address bar manually “dansihay.tumblr.com” and when I found out that that did not lead me to his site, I looked up the notes to find the name closest to dan sihay and I found dantumbles. I went to his tumblr and I really liked his layout, the way things are supposed to be moved in order for you to see information about the owner. All of that information, except that he did not put his name. I was like what the actual fuck, thank you lord I have found what I was looking for. Thank you so much! And this time I realized that he had links to his other social-networking sites screaming in his site, maybe not loud enough cause I didn’t hear them. HA! This guy is a Civil Engineering student also in XU.

Sheila – The girl with the bodyguard. The discriminated. When I arrived, this girl was not in the seen, she was with this boy who I assume is the LOVE OF HER LIFE, outside the coffee store. KIDS THESE DAYS, HAHA. After a few, she went inside and I gave handshakes again. This cutesy girl had her own opinions in mind and she does not hesitate to speak about it, that is one thing I like about this girl. Even though she is young, I can see that she talks like she has already experienced a lot of things. Her confidence amuses me. I would like to quote this from her tumblr’s About Section, this part says “i dont read books, I think they're sorta boring” HAHA you have one confident person right there. I don’t know which books she is referring to but somehow part of me agreed to this, - don’t get me wrong, I love to read but there are just these books which I especially classify as boring books.

Jenny – The silent girl. The unexpressive one. I do not know if she really is like this every time but I really have not had a good conversation with her. I would like to know more about you, jenny. I understand because you are the youngest but in reality, age really does not matter. Well for me, age is just a classification, sometimes this classification is used overrated-ly to a point that it gives us a biased preference on who we want and not want to be with. I do not exactly know what my point is but still, I should say that this girl wakes up the dormant pedobear in me. LOL. Sa next meet up, if ever I will be able to attend, we should BOND. Mighty Bond. HAHA. Kidding aside, she really is a great theme-maker, just look at her theme right now! I would love it if you would do a theme exclusively for me. HAHAHAHA. Pero I want Springfield as the base theme, not Neon plesss. I told you I was going to be selfish HAHA. I would also want to ask why the title of your blog is “damsel in distress.”? Are you that damsel? Do you like to get out of that distress? Or do you actually like/love the distress? You can’t save a damsel in distress if she loves her distress. Tumblr Ask me.HAHA

Janell – The influence-er. The repercussion-er. This girl is part 2 of my “this girl wakes up the dormant pedobear in me.” Series. HAHAHA. Look DAN, if you are reading this, I fancy your sister OK? HAHAHA. These two look ridiculously similar, detach janell’s braces and trim her hair and Voila, you’ll get a mini-Dan. This girl also has a lot to give to the theme-makers department, I am wondering if you could give me the codes for that Tumblr Ask below your page? Can you? Please? HAHA. This girl diffused the Tumblr addiction in her family just like how an epidemic virus works and let’s not forget that she also influenced Jenny. DAYUUM this girl. HAHA. I think you can run for a place in the High School Government and I think you will win. Try it!

Karl – The only friend. The schoolmate. Karl is really cool. We have known each other since high school, he went to the same school with me during the freshmen year. Although we were not in the same section, you will eventually know everyone because of the school’s teeny-tiny population. I just don’t know why he transferred, or if I knew the reason I would still keep it private anyway. Now that we both go to XU, whenever we happen to pass by each other of course we do the nod-because-we-know-each-other-nod. I really have not had a conversation with him during the freshmen year of college and it is only in this meet up that we sorta had a nice conversation. I didn’t even know he was a Chem. Eng student. Aww. Chemistry is just my love. Looky my post last April 10 (http://www.phlip-phlop.tumblr.com/post/508544967/just-in-time-for-this-fact). I think therefore that karl would be an interesting friend, with all the Chemistry talk I think I will have an Eargasm. HAHA. YES! I am a frustrated Chemical Engineer, but yeah life must go on. Engineer Philip Robert S. Jaramillo, RN – how cool would that be? HAHA so wasn’t this supposed to be about Karl? I am selfish like yeah.

Angeli- The unknown. Hello angelie, ewan ko kung mababasa mo ito. Gusto lang kitang i-include. I hope sa next meet up we will have a time to enjoy each other’s company. I wanted to know why you chose the ID bojoinx, since I know already the history of everybody else’s, yours will remain a mystery to me. When I went to your tumblr, I was hesitant to follow you because I saw that your last post was dated April 15, 2010. Are you on hiatus? I followed you still though, because I saw 1 post you have with Rotchmagne Quiblat and the caption states “Mcdo moments w/ my honey”. Rotch is a friend and I have been blockmates with her. Why did you leave immediately? Hmm.

Plang – The entertainer. The clown. Plang is one-of-a-kind! This girl has overflowing confidence and is always ready to crack her jokes up whenever the mood gets boring. I would like to thank you Plang! You made the meet up great! HAHA. We will never forget Johnny Johnny Johnny Whooop. HAHA. You should come back sa next meet up OK? Or better yet, we should go to your place next time? HAHA. How many hours gali ang byahe via bus? We will miss your jokes!

Carlo – The Financer. The Plurk God. HAHA I could not forget what he said about his Plurk’s Karma. He said “ 11 months na 100 akong Karma.” I don’t know if that is exactly what he said verbatim but yeah, even though I really don’t have a Plurk account and I do not wish to have one, I think I should be proud of this. I should tell the world about this “MY FRIEND’S KARMA HAS ALWAYS BEEN 100, IT NEVER DECREASES.” HAHA YES I NEED TO SCREAM TO MAKE A POINT HERE AND TO SHOW THE WORLD THAT I HAVE COOL FRIENDS. LOL.Carlo has this you-should-respect-me-cause-I’ve-been-there-and-done-that-aura in my point of view. I don’t know why he reflects that though, but still it makes me proud. HAHA How are you doing with Twitter? HAHA

Regina – The Ate. The Role model. Even though she does not want to be called “Ate”, she does act like one. HAHA. She is vocal with her opinions and I like the way she articulates her opinions, maybe because of experience I might add. This woman stands firmly on what she verbalizes, supporting them with evidences of course. I like her for being true, no holds barred. Ate! Stay like this. Kitakits sa XU! By the way, you made your layout? Nice pud ang background. Me likey.

Red – The dude with the DSLR part 1. The Lawyer. Red is a cool dude. He is fun to be with. He would make a great brother, in my opinion. He does not believe in the saying that goes “Hindi porket may DSLR ka, Photographer ka na.” He would like to argue that by saying “Inggit ka lang!” HAHAHA. I’m sorry your argument is invalid. Red is currently taking up Law in LDCU, how cooler can he get? HA! Once again, fan boy mode is turned ON. HAHA. I also want to ask why your name is Red, why not other colors? Why not rainbow? Jomie – The Star Wars Fanatic. The Wayfarer. I am so amazed by the dedication of this individual. Who would want to travel all the way to Cagayan de Oro for 3 hours? 3 freaking hours! If you were to ask me, I would not do that. HAHA. But still it was great to have finally seen him and have a real conversation with him. Jomie was one of my first friends in tumblr, I can still remember he taught me how to put that santa hat on my DP. Yes, the santa hat was a gig of tumblr. Christine – The Friend’s Sister. The Great Writer. Her sister is proud of her, I know that. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the Crusader Publication, The Xavier University Student Publication. LOL Seriously I know that she is part of the crusader but I do not know her position, I have to assume that she is the editor-in-chief because that is what I want her to be. I have read her articles. I am just confused why you have not written anything about the meet up? You should write! For tumblr’s sake! HAHA.

Harold – The dude with the DSLR part 2. The Latecomer Part 1. Oh well, atleast he learned his lesson – that punctuality is a MUST. LOL I speak like as if I was really early. Harold looks like Japhet (theeverdramatic.tumblr.com). Harold is a Biology student. I also like biology. HAHA You and Red must teach me your ~*pHoToGrAPhY*~ sKiLLssZz OK?

Liza – The Latecome Part 2. The earth lover. I really still do not know how you got your tumblr ID and I am curious. Enlighten the ignorance in me. I see that you wanna be an advocate for animal welfare? Why is that? You like animals? Weh. I particularly do not like pets. I am sorry. HAHA. I would like to end it here. Since I think my neurons have already reached the point of no return, LOL WUT? HAHA. I will make pahabol statements if I will remember something significant. OK? Enough with my selfishness. Now I can finally agree with what @katcutyourtongue said in one of her typos/wordarts “tumblr showed me that there is still hope in a world full of strangers.” THE END.
